One of our very young, very talented artists died last week. His name was Mike Gmitter and he was a cool guy. It was a shock to us here and to his family and friends. They will be in our thoughts and prayers.
I’m taking my parents to the Frick Friday night for the opening of the Pre-Raphaelite exhibit. I’m thinking of starting a brotherhood/sisterhood of this sort here in Mt. Lebanon.
So I unlocked and opened the door this morning and as soon as I crossed the treshhold it stunk of gas. Now what, I have to run through and turn off the beeping alarm before it starts to siren and certianly put off sparks and blow the whole place to smithereens. Needless to say I lived through that and called in the Mt. Lebo Fire Dept who quickly came and checked everywhere and assured us that the problem was not natural gas or carbon monoxide and that I would not wake up dead (?), but that the oder was very stinky and they have no idea what it is. Anyway, I have opened the door and put the plug-in on high and things seem to be better. I am beginning to suspect that the glue on the jewelry displays in the front window is heating up in the sun and stinking, Greg thinks this idea is far fetched, but usually I’m right so I will investigate this further.
Also, there is no spellcheck on this program, so if there are errors, just mentally correct them and move on. Don’t think less of me a lot of very bright people can’t spell, and neither can I.

They are starting to bomb Israel. Ceres Rangos’s gourd that sold two weeks ago was going as a gift to a man in Israel. I wonder…
“A Swedish study found that people who viewed and talked about art had lower blood pressure, and they were happier.” This was in a USA Weekend today, I’m sure this will drive in a lot of business. You never hear of a United States study coming up with stuff like this, thank God for the Swedes.
We went to South Side Works today to check out Southside Works Exposed. It was a hot night, but still a lot of people roaming around checking out the belly dancers and music. The boys played for at least an hour in the fountain which is really little spurts of water shooting up in the air. Mt. Lebanon should get some of these instead of a regular old fountain, I guess it’s a little late to bring that up at the next meeting.
I’ve been spending my down time here at the gallery checking out other blogs. The writing style on most of them is WAY more advanced than this bit of rambling, also big points of view about major issues. Well, that’s not what you’ll find here, just me blah, blah, blahing about day to day life at the Planet Art and sometimes at home. I came across the Digging Pitt Gallery’s blog — it’s pretty interesting and also by a gallery owner which is kind of cool.
Of course my favorite blog is Kathy Griffin, she’s funny. Life on the D-List and Project Runway are the only shows I’m watching this season. And now maybe you just learned more than you needed to know about me.
Check out this nice Trib story about Mt. Lebanon.

The reception last night was fantastic. Kathleen sold two of her paintings, but they are still hanging for all to see along with all of her other paintings untill July 21st. Thanks to all who came, with the exception of a few uninvited guests. If you were at the party you may have noticed them zooming around — fruit flies. We left the door open all night and somehow a gang of fruit flies decided the wine and grapes were the place to be, along with hovering around anyone who was having a juicy conversation.
Oh well, flies or not it was great. Rebecca played her violin all evening and it was wonderful. I am considering signing the boys up for some violin lessons (don’t laugh Dad). She claims to be able to start teaching them at age 4, but she hasn’t met my boys.
We had a surprise visit from wood artist Ron Layport. He loved the art, especially Laura Tabakman’s sculptures, and Ceres Rangos’ woven pieces. Speaking of Ceres, we just sold her “Path of the Goddess” woven gourd, it was a fantastic piece. She is coming in tomorrow to bring two new “funky” baskets, can’t wait to see that!

First Friday was great! So many people came through the store. I always ask “have you been in before,” and 90% never had. A whole new crowd.
Greg and I have been rushing around getting ready for “Awash with Color” tonight. Greg is at the gallery now hanging Kathy’s pictures and I’m cutting plum tomatoes in half to stick on a toothpick with fresh mozzeralla and set in pesto (not bad, eh?). Thankfully the boys have a friend over and are enjoying the beautiful day and not bugging me. They’re digging up the grass to build a river in the backyard, oh well, they’re happy.
Rich, I’m going with fig — I love it!! Who cares what the masses think.

No rain, we have electricity, First Friday is a go. I just talked to Richard at Salon Beleza and he has a kids game planned and mini-massages, the blues band is ready to play, everyone has treats out, Jessica is on her way to make jewelry, Bizza brought me 9 new handbags — this is looking to be a great night. Park in the garage, it’s easiest.
